I have been going to Skaf's for years now and I never get tired of their combo grill! The combination of fresh, citrusy cabbage salad with rice, grilled chicken, steak, and luleh is reliable and well-rounded. My favorite way to eat this dish is by ordering hummus and stuffing pita with the salad and meat. The garlic sauce is also irresistible!!!! My recommendation is to share the combo grill with two people, it is pretty big. The wraps here are also yummy. Thank you Skaf's for introducing me to the food of Lebanon!

Living in Southern California has its perks. If you've eaten anywhere from Ventura to San Diego, you've probably had okay Mediterranean/Middle Eastern food. In Los Angeles, your chances of finding good food gets better. If you're Glendale, your chances of finding great food grows even more. If you end up Skaf's, you've maybe found the best food around this far from Beirut. For years now I've heard people sing the praises of Skaf's...like Joe's Pizzas, there's a few of them in LA, but on first bite, this became the undisputed champion for me. The menu is quite large, but at the end of the day, pretty simple. You have your appetizers of falafel, hummus, baba ganoush...pita wraps...salads...kebabs...and plates. Everything is meant to be ordered per person, but we quickly realized that like most Middle Eastern cuisine, it can easily be had family style. To start, we shared a bowl of hummus at the table. The bowl of hummus looked like a cloud of chick peas...fluffy...light...but most importantly, flavorful. The kicker here (if you're dining in) was the basket of freshly baked pita bread. I figured they were just from a bag until we picked one up and steam followed. The pita on its own was equal parts crispy and tender. Dipped in the hummus, this could have been the only thing we ate that day and we would have been completely satisfied, but there was more. We heard about how good the falafel was so we had to try some. Thinking they'd be tiny, bite sized nuggets, we ordered two plates. When they came to the table, of course smoking hot, they were the size of large eggs. Once they were cool to touch, we tried them and they did not disappoint. The outside was nice and crunchy, the insides tender and moist. While other falafels can be green on the inside due to so much parsley, they really let the chick peas shine on their own. Surprisingly, the best part of the meal came even before the entrees were brought out. If you order a plate, it comes with a cabbage salad. Cabbage has such negative connotations in our culture...you either think it's boiled to hell until it has no flavor or it's drowned in mayonnaise. This was neither of things. Shredded rather thickly, the cabbage was tossed in a delightful vinaigrette with an assortment of herbs and spices. It was very reminiscent of a greek dressing, but there were just these extra zesty, flavorful notes. Like the hummus that came before it, I could have just eaten this bowl of well dressed cabbage and I would have been pretty happy, but then our actual orders arrived. Someone got a chicken skewer, another the kafta kebab, and I ordered the mixed shawarma. The chicken skewer has big chunks of meat in that familiar yellow/orange tint. The kafta kebabs are what you'd expect as well, giant meatball skewers. Both were fragrant, tender, and flavorful. The shawarma was shaved into healthy portions next to a mound of rice and picked turnips. The chicken was a bit dry, but the steak was perfect...especially the bits that had fat, were crispy, and still tender. Next time, I'm skipping the plate and definitely ordering this in wrap form. I'm also going to order more baba ganoush next time as well. While others consider this a dip or a side dish, however they prepare it elevates it to a proper meal. The eggplant is properly grilled and smoked and you can taste it with every bite. Where others might mash the eggplant into a homogenous paste, this feels like a chunky guacamole where you get all the textural notes. The seasonings, if any, highlight the flavors of the eggplant and tahini even more. Forget the warm pita, I could have eaten this with a spoon. While so many eateries in LA can get overhyped or overrated, this is one of the few times where the praise matches the plate.

Small parking lot at the back The restaurant but several tables inside. Service was extremely friendly. This restaurant had been on my list forever and I've never had the opportunity to try it out because it closes at 3.30 and also not open on weekends. So happy that I finally got to try it on a Friday afternoon. Now to the food! Everything was outstanding. We ordered the chicken shawarma plate and the shrimp and chicken kabob skewer. All the meat and shrimp was seasoned well and very tasty. We added on the baba ghanoush and hummus. The baba ghanoush had the perfect smoky level. That was a good size serving as well. The cabbage salad that comes with it was so delicious. It was huge. We liked the cheese roll. Like a spring roll. The portions are huge and probably good for 3 meals.

Skaf's is still great. Some of the best baba ganoush I've ever eaten - smokey deliciousness. My go to is the Kibbeh labanieh, but everything on the menu is great. Yes, I've toured the menu many times. This is a family operation and it shows - the service is personable, friendly and it feels like home.

Since I was in Glendale at Mission Liquor anyway, I decided to pick up food from Skaf's, a place near my wife's old workplace. I remembered the food being pretty decent and there's no better place to find Middle Eastern food than Glendale. After perusing the menu, I decided to order the combo #9 with 3 skewers: shish kebab, tawook, and kafta. The steak was amazing. Super tender and juicy. The chicken was flavorful but very dry. The kafta was what you'd expect, nothing out of the ordinary but perfectly acceptable. The pickled vegetables were rather lacking in quantity and the cabbage salad was too oily for my taste so that was disappointing. They are very generous with the rice which wasn't extremely fluffy but adequate. At $29, it's not exactly a deal but with food prices being what they are, it's pretty much what I expected. The parking situation is atrocious in this tiny center. You can rarely find a spot and even if you do, the parking spaces are too narrow and you have to worry about getting dents on your doors unless you drive the smallest of subcompact cars. Glendale isn't known for its thoughtful drivers so many people parked next to you could care less about swinging their doors open forcefully. The best strategy is to bring someone with you who can pop in to pick up your takeout order while you find a safe place to wait for them. I don't think I'd make a solo trip to pick up a meal here.

I'm officially a big fan of Skaf's. The kabobs are amazing. So juicy and flavorful. And the spices give each skewer that comforting, zesty taste that has you deeply savoring each bite. If you've had excellent Lebanese food before, then you know what I'm talking about. I ordered for pickup so didn't eat in. However, I was very impressed with the setup. Very modern and clean, but still homey, intimate, and inviting. The service? Everyone there was incredibly friendly and hospitable. They're clearly people that aim to please! Love it. The only thing that didn't wow me was the rice. The rice was just average. But the fresh crunch of the cabbage salad more than made up for it. If you're near Glendale and craving Middle Eastern / Mediterranean, then this is the spot!

Service: 5/5 Food: 5/5 While entrees are priced higher than other similar spots, the portions are bigger and the beef pieces wow so tender Hummus was so good too! I will be back to try the fish
